Readme for Rachel Racoon Pictures
=================================
These pictures are hand-drawn pictures of a new cartoon character
named 'Rachel the Raccoon' drawn by Leslie Dietz of Vegreville,
Alberta, Canada.
These pictures are in overscanned hires-interlace (704x480) and are
provided in 16-colour, 8-colour, and 4-colour so you can use them for
your Workbench backdrop pictures if you have Workbench 2.1 or 3.0 or if
you have Workbench 2 and use NickPrefs or Tapete to put a picture in
the background of your workbench screen. The colours are arranged so
that at least on Workbench 2 you will have standard looking titlebars
and menues.
As you may have seen, they are styled after the 'Eric Schwartz' style of
pictures, but the character of Rachael is a totally original creation
of Les's.
Les is not an artist. He got his interest from watching Schwartz
animations, and like me, is an avid collector of Eric's work. One time
he came over, he saw my workbench backdrop picture that was one of Eric's
pictures that I had converted to a backdrop. He liked it immediately and
started converting some of Eric's other pictures and scenes from his
animations (which I might send up if I can ever get a hold of Eric for
his permission). Many of the scenes were lo-res non-interlaced
pictures, so when converting them to hi-res interlaced pictures, Les had
to 'fill in' a lot of the details. Anyways, after getting a lot of
experience converting a number of these, he wanted to do some of his own.
He lacked a character so I off-hand suggested a raccoon. Well here she is!
His first creation, 'Rachel_Raccoon' was made using Eric's picture
'AFitAmy' as a guide. His second picture, 'WaterRaccoon' is a totally
original creation.
By the way, Les's trademark is the little dragon logo in the corner of
his pictures. Look for more of these in the future.
Les used the programs 'DPaint IV' to do the drawing, and 'Imagine' and
'Scenery Animator' to draw the clouds and waves (which were touched up
later of course). These were drawn on his stock Amiga 2000, but now
Les just got an A4000, so expect more to be done up in the new AGA
graphic modes with more colours.
The 8-colour and 4-colour conversions of these pictures and the colour
remapping were done by me (Darren Ewaniuk).
Les is a member of the AmiCUE computer club and is a participant in the
AmiCUE Animation SIG.
